SISTER SESSION

Estonia 2012 / 12 MIN
Dir: Brett Astrid Võmma, Helen Habakuk ja Doris Tääker

Documenting the women competing in the Simple Session BMX jam, the film is a behind the scenes look at women going big, crashing hard and pushing each other to rip it in a male dominated sport.

BRIAN FOSTER MOVIE
USA 2012 / 44 min
Dir: Stew Johnson

Brian Foster is one of the most respected and all around legends of BMX. Brian grew up racing BMX and was damn good at it too, he made it to the pro class and almost to number one Pro title. He then shifted into steet, park and trail riding and soon became a household name in all of them with his often imitated but never duplicated style and ability to go big but still have a lot of fun on a bike. Within the all-encompassing world of BMX, no other rider has been able to successfully maintain a career that has spanned over thirty years and crossed over from professional racing to pro park, street and trails. Brian has some stories to tell. Don't miss the chance to see this very well put together documentary about BF and BMX in general on big screen.

THIS AIN’T CALIFORNIA
Germany 2012 / 90 min
Dir: Marten Persiel

This Ain't California is a celebration of the lust for life, a contemporary documentary trip into the world of skateboarding in the German Democratic Republic. A coming-of-age tale of a bunch of teenagers and their passionate love for a sport on the crumbling tarmac of the streets in the German Democratic Republic, which was considered very ill-fitting. The punk fairy tale is a story of the subversive powers of fun in that part of Germany, which had lost touch with its citizens. The film follows its three heroes from their childhood in the seventies through their teenage rebellion in the eighties, ending in the last summer of their life in the German Democratic Republic in 1989, when their life changed forever, and follows them to 2011. The story is authentic right down to the production and creative teams, which are made up of East and West German skaters. The arc of the film connects past and present to show how the skaters' lives (shaped by a repressive system) have their own strength. The films has a light-hearted yet powerful soundtrack as limitless as the vitality of its protagonists. Yet it is not a light-hearted film at all. It is a metaphor with its beginnings in the GDR but does not end with the fall of the wall. A film in which the East takes a look at the West, right up to the year 2011 – always with one theme clearly in focus: friendship. The film has veen travelling around the world to many important film festivals and won two awards at the LA International Skateboard Film Festival.

VENTURE FURTHER
WORLD PREMIERE!
Germany 2013 / 15 min
Dir: Philip Kölsch

5 riders, 3 weeks, 3 countries and a trip into the unknown for everyone involved. With most trips nowadays being "team trips", this one brought some people together that usually wouldn't travel and ride together.

Further took 5 riders, from 5 different countries and flew them to South East Asia for the Venture Further trip. Devon Smillie, Brad Simms, JB Peytavit, Jason Phelan and David Budko were traveling from Singapore via Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Jakarta and Bali in Indonesia, where they were riding new spots, meeting new people and getting new experiences, all that captured in a short film by Philip Kölsch.

With such a diverse crew of riders/riding styles and personalities, as well as the daily struggle with unfamiliar places, different climate and culture, it was obvious that this trip won't be your ordinary BMX road trip...

MAGENTA SKATEBOARDS: SAN FRANCISCO HILL STREET BLUES 2
France 2012 / 16 min
Dir: Yoan Taillandier

One of the most memorable parts of classic San Francisco street skating is hill skating, based on speed, style and aesthetic. Though quite popular in the nineties, it seems to have gone out of style around 2000. However, it is a unique aspect of street skating that teaches you about feeling, control and simplicity. In April 2012, Magenta's Zach Lyons, Jimmy Lannon, Leo Valls, Vivien Feil, Soy Panday and fish eye master Yoan Taillandier met up with friends in San Francisco to film the sequel to SF Hill Street Blues; their goal was to resurrect this aspect of skateboarding, approaching it with a foreign point of view and connect with locals. SF Hill Street Blues 2 is a short film that focuses on the beauty of San Francisco and aims to make you want to grab your skateboard and bomb a street. Nomination of LA International Skatebord Film Festival.

MAGENTA SKATEBOARDS: PANIC IN GOTHAM
France 2013 / 7 min
Dir: Colin Read

Panic in Gotham is the result of 12 days and nights skating the streets of New York City. Shot and edited by Colin Read in downtown Manhattan in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the video focuses on fast skating through downtown traffic and original spots. The film pays homage to the raw vibe from old New York skate videos while giving it a modern touch; It shows the parallel between skateboarding, graffiti and oldschool New york hip hop... Featuring Magenta's Soy Panday, Vivien Feil, Jimmy Lannon and friends, followed by a full part from Leo Valls to celebrate his first visit to New York.

SITKA: INTO THE THICKET
Canada 2013 / 11 min
Dir: Ben Gulliver

Into the Thicket chronicles the journey of a few skateboarders' trek into the forests of Vancouver Island to skate a ramp constructed using the surrounding environment and few other materials. This has to be one of the most peaceful and utterly enchanting places to skate on the planet. It’s a refreshing take on skate videos. Where most crews make slick, modern videos in gritty urban looking environments, Sitka have created a reflective, thoughtful piece that reflects the real ‘back to the heart’ attitude the company have in relation to skateboarding and the environment. Crafting something beautiful out of already beautiful raw materials for sport and video is an act of pure, symbiotic love and if this trailer is anything to go by, it’s going to be a spectacular show. Featuring skaters: Chris Haslam, Todd Myers and Mat Howell.
